1

Beginner Tap

Tap Dance 1 for beginners. Introduction to the history of tap dance, rhythm, and Montreal’s jazz culture. Learn Base 1 steps by Ethel Bruneau. Incorporate Base 1 into simple rhythmic choreographies set to jazz music.

Thursdays, 7:15pm to 8:30pm

Intermediate Tap

Learn Base 2 by Ethel Bruneau, with syncopation of Base 1 and 2 steps. Explore variations of Base 1 and 2 and master more complex choreographies. Introduction to percussive improvisation with or without music.

Wednesdays, 6:45pm to 8:00pm

Advanced Tap

At this level, participants have a strong mastery of Base 1 and 2. The class explores more complex choreography, advanced improvisation, and emphasizes sharing percussive creativity and rhythmic body expression.

Suzanne Bruneau

Suzanne Bruneau is a teacher of rhythm tap, Afro jazz movement, and a keeper of Afro-descendant culture. Deeply rooted in these traditions, She is passionate about passing on the rhythms, history, and artistry of tap dance to the next generation.

​

She was trained in multidisciplinary dance by her mother, the legendary Ethel Bruneau. Her goal is to share her heritage with multi-generational techniques. In this spirit, Suzanne offers tap dance and Afro jazz discovery workshops for adults and youth, with an emphasis on musicality, rhythm, and cultural richness.

Majiza Philip

Majiza Philip is a Montreal-based tap dancer, mentor, teacher, and choreographer from the historic Little Burgundy community. She proudly continues the legacy of her grandmother, the legendary tap dancer and “Queen of Tap,” Ethel Bruneau.

​

With over 20 years of teaching experience, she has worked with institutions such as the Segal Centre Youth Program, Arts-Études at Massey-Vanier, the Cameron School of Dance, Académie de Danse Préville, Montreal school boards, and Villa Sainte-Marcelline.  In 2024, she was invited as a guest artist at the Toronto International Tap Dance Festival, where she continues to share the joy and power of rhythm and percussive dance.
